Good morning Church and welcome! Pastor John is away for the next three weeks and so we are fortunate to have Pastor Dan Roukema guest preaching for us in John’s absence. This morning’s message is part of a series on the book of Acts and we will look at the account of Peter raising Tabitha to life. The account that Pastor Dan will be breaking down for us depicts two different callings for two followers of Jesus: Peter raises the dead and Tabitha practices good works and charity. As we worship together this morning, let us remember that God calls us to serve in many ways and let us strive to quiet our hearts and our minds so as to be attentive to his calling.

Psalm 25 says this
“To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net” (Psalm 25:1-15, ESV).
Build My Life – Pat Barrett
My hope for all of us today is that we will let this song become our prayer. The line “lead me in your love to those around me” is very reminiscent of the way the Tabitha sought to love the Lord and serve her community. Let us pray that we would be a people who are building all aspects of our life on Christ who is our firm foundation, and let us pray that we would seek to love and bless those who are in need of love and blessing. As Tabitha and Peter were attentive to the calling of God, let us listen to the ways that we are called to serve as a part of the body of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says “therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” We have been given new life, and with new life comes commission. We have been commissioned to live into the new life we have been given and love others as Christ did, following the example of disciples like Tabitha. As we go into this next week, let us seek to live faithfully and attentively so that we may experience this new life fully.
